How to Get a Garden Shed Built Without Lifting a Finger
Since the advent of shows like The Block, Backyard Blitz, and Renovation Rescue, our expectations have forever changed when it comes to home renovations: “that looks easy, it’ll be done in three ad breaks”. A shed installation falls somewhere between a landscaping job and renovation project; we’ve almost managed to get it down to that screenwipe-makeover speed. Well... we’re definitely quick!
While The Shed Man offers the majority of our garden sheds as pick-up DIY options from Osborne Park, we understand that you may not have the time, confidence, or tools to do this yourself. The risk is, in the hands of a less skilled tradesperson, the yard could look like a bomb site for days or weeks.
Hiring The Shed Man to carry out delivery and shed installation may be your best option. For a few reasons, firstly, we’re guessing you don’t have a big enough shed to store that yet-to -be-built shed.
Here’s a quick guide to getting your garden shed done, while doing very little at all.
Step 1 - Get a free measure and quote
No need to get up. One of the team will come to you at a time that suits to arrange a measure and quote, as well as discuss options for the best fit within your budget. Listening to your feedback and a keen eye for what will best suit your space means we can provide your quote on the day to get things moving.
Love it? Let’s book in a day to get building.
Step 2 - Order some sand to be delivered (and get out the beach bucket and spade for the kids)
If you don’t already have a slab, we’ll need a flat and level surface to install your garden shed. With our Works service we can arrange the 500x500x35 pavers and flatten a sand site. Of course, if you already have the end of a driveway or another solid space, it’s a step you can skip.
In most cases, you won’t need this to be more than 5cm deep to create a level surface. If you’re ordering sand, this helpful calculator will give you an estimate of how much to order based on floor dimensions.
Step 3 - Order a slab of beer, we’ll bring the concrete
The beer’s not for us. It’s for the boys in the share-house down the road to lend a hand. It’s not possible for The Shed Man team to arrange earthmoving, but we will flatten the sand site before work. Meet your neighbors and see if they can do the sand shovelling for you to remove any rubble and plants before the paver sand goes in. You might also try a site like Airtasker to get an extra pair of hands.
Step 4 - Sit back while we do the work
The Shed Man will call you the day before your installation to confirm our arrival time. None of that waiting half a day for your cable TV to be installed business! We’ll arrive to deliver your pavers and garden shed components at the time we agree on. If only your local pizza place was as punctual.
Then we’ll do a final levelling and screed your sand site. The Shed Man installation team will lay black plastic, to prevent weeds and grass growing up through the cracks, before laying the concrete slabs.
When we assemble the garden shed, we’ll bolt down the base frame using dyna bolts. Finally, we seal the base frame to the slabs with silicone to prevent seeping and runoff from damaging your shed’s contents.
Now it’s time to get out the hand trolley to move all your stuff in. On second thought, you might need a hand… maybe get two slabs delivered for the guys down the road.
